Source Notes: Note, Sheldon may not be the original source, but it is by far the earliest I could find. However, this quote has often been ascribed to Hemingway. This comes from the January 1963 issue of Playboy magazine, which contained a posthumous article titled “A Man’s Credo” allegedly by Ernest Hemingway and included this quote. However, Hemingway experts express doubt about the articles authorship. For further information on this see here
