1092 – “We’ve all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That’s who we really are.”
-Sirius Black in J K Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
“We have all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the power we choose to act on. That’s who we really are.”
Sirius Black (Played by Gary Oldman) in Warner Bros Pictures’ Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007)
(more…)974 – “We open our eyes and think we’re seeing the whole world out there. But what has become clear – and really just in the last few centuries – is that when you look at the electro-magnetic spectrum we are seeing less than 1/10 billionth of the information that’s riding on there. So we call that visible light. But everything else passing through our bodies is completely invisible to us. Even though we accept the reality that’s presented to us, we’re really only seeing a little window of what’s happening.”
-David Eagleman

(more…)840 – “My mother is like the bright light in the sky, a doe on the hillsides. She is the morning star, shining even at noon-time. She is precious carnelian, a topaz from Marhaci.”
653 – Grover Cleveland’s Statue of Liberty Dedication
“We are not here today to bow before the representation of a fierce warlike god, filled with wrath and vengeance, but we joyously contemplate instead our own deity keeping watch and ward before the open gates of America and greater than all that have been celebrated in ancient song. Instead of grasping in her hand thunderbolts of terror and of death, she holds aloft the light which illumines the way to man’s enfranchisement. We will not forget that Liberty has here made her home, nor shall her chosen altar be neglected. Willing votaries will constantly keep alive its fires and these shall gleam upon the shores of our sister Republic thence, and joined with answering rays a stream of light shall pierce the darkness of ignorance and man’s oppression, until Liberty enlightens the world.”
–Grover Cleveland, 22nd and 24th President of the United States of America
Today is Election Day in the United States, and regardless of who you support it is important that you go vote. Don’t make excuses, as the fewer people who vote, the worse and more partisan our democratic republic becomes, so exercise the fundamental right and vote!
596 – “All that is gold does not glitter…”
“All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.”
